Dr. Doruk Erkan is an Associate Physician-Scientist at the Barbara Volcker Center for Women and Rheumatic Diseases, Associate Attending Rheumatologist and Clinical Researcher at Hospital for Special Surgery, and Associate Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine. In addition to his rheumatology practice, Dr. Erkan has a long-standing research interest in Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS); he has been involved in APS research since 1997. His research interest includes identification of factors that increase the risk of thrombosis, potential prevention strategies, and new APS treatments. He is the principal investigator in multiple clinical trials ranging from mechanistic studies to drug trials for difficult-to-treat APS patients. He has been a member of multiple APS-related national/international committees as well as an invited speaker at numerous conferences. Dr Erkan is the Executive Committee Co-Chair of the international APS research network, APS ACTION (Antiphospholipid Syndrome Alliance for Clinical Trials and International Networking), and he was the organization committee chair of the chaired 15th International Congress on Antiphospholipid Antibodies.
